Question & Answer

Do we have to be paid sick time?

I worked as a casual part time employee, less than twenty hours a week & the corporation's policy on sick time was that you must find your own coverage or show up for work no matter how sick you were or no matter what the emrgency was. Is this legal?

Rita Risser's response:

Yes, it is legal. Does it make good business sense? It does seem a little excessive. It would seem that if an employer had a good worker, the employer would want to cut them a little slack. And the employer really wouldn't want to encourage people to come to work sick, either. But if there are lots of people around ready and willing to do this work, then an employer can chose to do it this way.
