Can I be fired for refusing to wear long-sleeve shirt to cover tattoos?
I was hired in a fast food restaurant and was sent to a three-week training program. In the middle of the program I was told that I have to wear a long-sleeve shirt to hide my tattoos. This is art, they are not vulgar in any way, they are of animals. There are no policies and procedures on this. I feel it is unfair.
Rita Risser's response:
Generally, employers have the right to establish dress codes. Most dress codes say something like "dress appropriately for your position." This is enforceable. This is not considered an invasion of your privacy, since the alternative (wearing a long-sleeved shirt) puts minimal restraints on you.
