Question & Answer

I was fired for calling my manager a sow -- doesn't that violate my freedom of speech? 12-15-00

I was terminated because of calling my supervisor "Sow." I also told an employee that she was a "bitch" after she humiliated me in front of another manager.

Do I have any rights? I thought this was AMERICA, LAND OF FREE SPEECH!!!!

Rita Risser responds:

Freedom of speech means that the government cannot discriminate against you for calling people names. A private employer, however, has the right to demand that employees treat each other with respect. They had a right to terminate your employment.
