What is a "salary non-exempt" position? 07-10-01
What is a "salary non-exempt" position? Isn't there a "salary non-exempt" category? Or is there just hourly and exempt? If so, are there "rules" on deducting from an employee's salary for sick time, personal time, etc. that apply to all "salary" employees, regardless of whether they are salary exempt or salary non-exempt?
Rita Risser replies:
"Salary non-exempt" is a category that some companies create for administrative reasons. However, all of the rules for non-exempt employees must be followed, including keeping accurate track of time, paying overtime, and otherwise treating them like hourly employees. Whether you deduct for sick time and personal time is up to you, as long as you give employees notice of what you are doing.
