Question & Answer

Don't I have the right to copies of everything in my personnel file? 03-06-02

I was given a written warning for tardiness and for not speaking properly to the Assistant Manager. Don't I have the right to a copy for my own personal file?

Ann Kiernan replies:

Sorry, not in Florida, your state. Our research shows that the only states that mandate that employees must be allowed to make copies of their personnel files are Alaska and Idaho (public officials only).

Whether employees even have the right to see their personnel files varies from state to state.
