Question & Answer

Can we post a list of fired employees? 03-07-2007

Our employees work for different managers on different days. They check their schedules online (made two weeks in advance). Sometimes they miss a mandatory date with one manager, who then fires them, but they show up to work the next day working with another manager who has not yet been informed of that person's termination. Can I post a list of recently terminated employees, so that when they come to work they will know that they are no longer employed by the company?

Rita Risser replies:

In order to reasonably protect the privacy of employees, I do not think it is permissible to post the list. The employees should be called at home and notified they are terminated. The new manager should be notified. And if there is a receptionist or security guard, s/he should be notified. But posting for all the world to see seems like an invasion of privacy.

Good luck.
