Can we ask contractors to use a time clock?

May I ask those providing service under a contract to sign in and out using a time clock when they are on premises?  (This is not related to pay, which is set by contract.)

Ann Kiernan replies:

Sure, you can ask anyone who enters and leaves your premises to record their arrival and departure times. One caution: Do not have contractors use the same time clock as your employees.
