During a company meeting, my regional manager disclosed that I was transgender to the company. Who do I talk to about this? What type of lawyer should I seek?

Rita Risser Chai Replies:

That’s terrible! I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you. On June 15, 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, holding that firing employees because of their sexual orientation or transgender status violates the law. The Court did not address “outing” a gay or transgender employee. Some state discrimination and privacy laws have prohibited outing. You should seek an employment lawyer to discover your rights. The National Employment Lawyers Association consists of lawyers who specialize in representing employees.
